2005

We are all very excited with Camp Brittney and are eagerly anticipating it being paid off and the beginning of construction on a mission house. I had the wonderful opportunity to visit there near the end of June while on a mission trip with Kenneth and Dayna Bledsoe from Good hope Baptist Church in Saluda, Mark and Meg Kuzdas, who are missionaries in Costa Rica, and some youth from First Baptist of ‘96. We were all told of the ideas that certain ones had been brainstorming and everyone’s eyes just lit up with all of the possibilities laid before us. We all have been given a chance to make a warm, inviting place for the children of Costa Rica to visit and for the mission groups who come to Costa Rica to serve God, At Camp Brittney, which is about 16 acres on the side of a mountain, there is a pool, a picnic area, fruit trees, a creek running through the middle with a bridge, and plenty of open land for a mission house, soccer fields and volleyball courts, campfires, and maybe even a zip line! There is just so much potential for the land, and I am very excited to see what happens next, I can just imagine Brittney up in heaven, tears of joy running down her face because of all of Gods glory that is shinning on this camp. and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Brittney lived her life for the Lord and she felt that it was her calling to become a missionary in Costa Rica so she could share God’s love with the people there. It was in Costa Rica last year when she received this calling. When she returned home from the trip, she stayed in contact with one boy, Mainor, who had touched her heart tremendously. She was always talking about him and always brought her letters from him into Spanish so our teacher could translate them for her.

After Brittney’s death, I couldn’t wait to meet this wonderful young man whom she whom she always talked about. I brought one of her bibles with me to Costa Rica so I could give it to him, so he would have something of hers. When I finally got to meet him, I couldn’t speak. I just handed him the bible an pointed out her name so he knew it was Brittney’s. I saw him thumbing through it later and I just started crying because I know he missed her so much and loved having her bible. It was such a special time for me, and for Mainor I’m sure, and it is for people like him who this camp is for and who Brittney would want it to be for.

This camp is the reason God took my best friend away. Because of her death, we have gotten this land and paid the down payment this soon, And it’s because of her life that this camp will prosper. Through Brittney’s legacy, a dream will become reality.
