March 7 - 11, 2008 Mission Trip

March 8 Saturday was a beautiful day! We awoke to a bright sun and a cool breeze. Today the children of Los Guidos were coming to Camp Brittany for an Easter party.
We were prepared for a day of fun. Our suitcases were full of supplies for this day, especially candy! We hid over 500 hundred Easter eggs stuffed with treats!
100 children arrived at 10:30AM! They had been on the bus for hours and they were so excited to be at Camp Brittany!!. They enjoyed the Easter Egg hunt and then had fun at the different stations we had prepared. There was face painting, crafts, recreation, the pool and dying eggs! This was something not many had ever done before!
They laughed and played and had a wonderful time. The activities continued after a hot dog lunch. They were at Camp until around 3:30, then loaded the bus to return to Los Guido.
There are many stories about this day. The one I will never forget is when the 2 little girls opted to wrap up their hot dog lunch to take back to their Mom. There was no food at their house.
In Morning and Evening by Charles Spurgeon, he says: "It is more than a duty; it is a privilege to help the poor of the Lord's flock. Remember the words of Jesus, "Assuredly ,I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these, My brethren, you did it to Me" (Matthew 25:40). Surely this assurance is motivation enough to lead us to help others with a willing hand and a loving heart. Remember that what we do for His people is graciously accepted by Christ as if it were done to Him."
March 10 I will never forget this day. We visited a place called “The Hole”. Words cannot describe the devastation I saw. This is the place where Brittney felt God call her into the mission field. I now completely understand the passion she felt for the people of Costa Rica. After seeing this place, I feel an urgency to help Camp Brittney, help these people. These children need a place to escape…if only for a week. A place they can receive 3 meals a day, hear God’s word, play, swim, and go to bed with no worries.
I feel so blessed to have experienced a little of what Brittney experienced. And I now know that her vision for Costa Rica will live on through Camp Brittney. Thank you Kenneth and Dayna for making her vision a reality.
