2005

The Brittney Strom Foundation was established this past year in order for the legacy of one teenage girl to continue. This teenage girl was Brittney Strom, an extraordinary Christian with a heart for missions. After only one trip to Costa Rica and seeing the great spiritual and physical needs of the people there, Brittney felt God calling her to be a missionary. When asked to write an essay about why she wanted to return to Costa Rica, Brittney was the first to turn in her essay. In this paper, it was evident that Brittney had a heart for the country of Costa Rica. In it she wrote: “Suddenly 10 days can enlighten your understanding of the purpose for your life...I think God wants me to go to Costa Rica to definitely use me to advance His kingdom...The next generation of Coast Rica has so much potential. This kids there are obviously yearning for something deeper - something more. I want to be a part of that...We’re gonna save this world - one person at a time.” Sadly, Brittney was unable to make her second trip. She, along with her mother, father, and brother, were killed in a plane crash on January 7, 2005. However, for those of us who were able to make a second trip, Brittney’s presence and passion were felt everywhere.

My name is Sarah Perry, and I had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica with Brittney Strom in the summer of 2004. I was able to see firsthand her excitement and willingness to share God’s love with the people of Costa Rica. Everyday we went out to minister, Brittney was ready with a big smile on her face. I do not remember a time that I did not see her smiling. Even with the language barrier, Brittney did not let anything keep her from trying to communicate with the people. She impacted so many people on the trip, from the people of Costa Rica to the members of the mission team. She made a lasting impression on so many who will never forget her.

This past June, I traveled to Costa Rica for a second mission trip. Brittney’s presence was strongly felt even though she was not physically there. Everywhere our team went, memories of Brittney were soon to be found...the child who licked her Shrek chap stick...her pen pal Mainor to whom she faithfully wrote...her constant smile...and so many more. Our team was so fortunate enough to tour the land that will soon be home to Camp Brittney. Camp Brittney will be used as a camp for use by the missionaries Mark and Meg Kuzdas and El Lugar, a partnering church. In addition to being used for retreats and seminars of the church, it will be used primarily as a getaway for many youth. It will be a peaceful place away from the dangers and abuses these children face each day. When we visited the camp, each of us could imagine the laughter of children ringing through the air as they experienced safety and peace for the first time at Camp Brittney. Our team was able to catch onto the vision and soon to be reality of Camp Brittney.

In need of a little over a thousand dollars in order to make the down payment, out group was faithful that God would provide. Out team decided to donate some of our extra money from the trip to the camp. Other team members donated extra funds they had as well. After adding up all that money, we were only fifty dollars short. Later that evening, after a phone call home, we learned that a team member had received fifty dollars in the mail to use for the foundation. The down payment had been met! We are confident that God will meet the rest of the financial needs. Would you consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Brittney Strom Foundation? Your gift would not only help to touch the people of Costa Rica but would also help to further the call on Brittney Strom’s life. Together we can continue the legacy Brittney left on this earth. While we do not understand why God took such an incredible young lady away from us, we do realize that it is through her death that Camp Brittney is being established. Brittney wanted to dedicate her life to serving the people of Costa Rica. There is no better way to remember her than to see Camp Brittney be used to touch the lives of the Costa Rican people. Together we can make sure that Brittney’s hopes and dreams become a reality. Please consider giving to this worthy cause. In her memory, for His name! God bless you!
